Headmaster could not hold back tears

GEORGE TOWN: It was a heartbreaking scene at Chung Ling High School yesterday as its principal and a member of the school's board of directors wept openly at an emergency meeting called to discuss the tragedy.
Foo Wan P'ng, who is on the board of directors, said the entire school community was shocked and saddened by the death of its students and teacher.

"We, however, hope that the affected families will be able to cope with their loss and grief, and they will find the strength to continue with their lives."

Foo said the school's dragon boat team had experienced coaches who had successfully trained many students since its inception.

The team had also achieved outstanding results in competing at both national and international levels.

Just as he was speaking to reporters, news came that the body of Brandon Yeoh, 17, had been found.

Both Foo and school principal Chuah Yau Chou wept uncontrollably.

Earlier at the meeting, attended by the board members, its Parent-Teacher Association and alumni, it was decided that family members of those who died in the tragedy will be given RM10,000 each as a token of sympathy for their loss.

Those injured will receive RM2,000 each. NST
